Layer: Basemap (ID: 0)

Name: Basemap

Display Field:

Type: Group Layer

Geometry Type: null

Description: This basemap layer contains one or more layers that provide a high performance background for your map. If you are using ArcGIS 10.0 or more recent, the contents of this basemap layer are automatically cached locally to provide fast drawing performance. You can add additional layers into this basemap layer or remove layers from it. If you are using ArcGIS 9.3.1 this layer is simply a group layer. For a description of each layer contained in this basemap, please open the layer properties of the individual layer(s) it contains. Tip for users of 10.0 or more recent: In addition to panning you can also roam. During roam the map will automatically move in the direction and at the speed you choose. Roam speed and direction and is controlled by your cursor's location relative to the edge of the display. You can roam at any time. It doesn't matter which tool is currently selected. To roam, hold down the Q key, or hold down the middle mouse button until the cursor changes to an arrow. Then move the cursor. Roaming works best if your map contains a basemap layer, because basemap layers automatically give you smooth continuous display without white space while you pan or zoom.
